saturday's farmer's market at kcc

One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is go to the KCC (Kapiolani Community College) Farmer's Market. Located at the base of Diamond Head, it's the largest open market in Honolulu for locally grown produce, exotic plants and flowers, and "ono" (delicious) food from some great home-style cooks all in one location. And might I add that the student chefs from Team Hawaii at Kapiolani Community College culinary school recently won the American Culinary Federation's prestigious national title.

Go with an empty stomach and try: the heirloom tomatoe, mozzarella, pesto pizza with basil...beignets with lilikoi sauce...kim chee portugese sausage...kona abalone...fried green tomaotes...ginger lemonade...roasted kahuku corn...any dish cooked at the kcc culinary tent...shave ice...freshly made pop corn...hawaiian style chili...fresh baked breads...

And on your way out why not pick-up some beautifully cut flowers, pineapples and papayas, fresh local honey and a cup of freshly brewed kona coffe as you swagger your way home...what a great way to sustain the agriculture in hawaii: to buy local!
