Eleven days, 100 miles and 22 cities across the southland, Michael Heizer's "Levitaed Mass" massive boulder had arrived at the Los Angeles County Museum at 4am with crowds howling and cheering before the break of dawn, to the new home of the "rock star". Heizer , a California sculptor, created this idea over 5 decades ago to sculpt a gigantic rock (granite, mind you) and to levitate it over an open trough. Emmert International, the trucking company who transported the rock, drove at the speed of 8mph and took over 3 lanes of the freeway and only travelled during the twilight hours. Question is...is this granite rock a piece of art?
