vision of a post apocalyptic war

Parson's School of Design graduate, Samantha Sleeper, debuts her collection: NPRPA, a luxury women's wear apparel. She graduated only 9 months ago!

Her first collection is her rendition of a post apocalyptic war..."the abstract patterns on bodysuits and leggings are reminiscent of concrete gridlines and housing complexes."

day 1:demolition

My first attempt in home improvement. I am working with a contractor to renovate my mother's home:kitchen and 2 baths. I have worked the first 2 months researching, locating and coordinating vendors with a given budget and time frame. Thus far, it has been exciting and challenging. Looking forward to the end result and possibly a rewarding job opportunity in the future (among my other talents). Keep your fingers crossed!

"spirit of america"

Closed to the public, the Goodyear blimp only offers rides to corporate guests of the company, members of the press and celebrities. Boo! It's everyday use is for advertising Goodyear's products and special service announcements.

Goodyear airships were originally built in 1911. Coined "yachts of the sky",  today there are only 3 blimps operating in America: the "Spirit of America" (above) located in Carson, CA, "Spirit of Goodyear" in Ohio and "Spirit of Innovation" in Florida. The blimps are 192 feet long, 59.5 feet tall and 50 feet wide. They can go as fast as 53 mph, but cruising speed is 35 mph and can travel travel 24 hrs or 900 miles w/o re-fueling for helium.

Trivia:The most famous blimp shot is in the movie "Scarface". Tony Montana sees the blimp with the words "The World Is Yours..."

room with a view

Capitol Records Tower and faded mural "Hollywood Jazz" featuring Charlie ParkerMiles DavisElla FitzgeraldNat King ColeBillie Holiday and Duke Ellington.

The first record company built on the West Coast in the 1955. The 13-story Capitol Records building is earthquake resistant and depicts a stack of 45's on a turntable. It's recording studios were designed by Les Paul, musician and sound expert. The first recording was by Frank Sinatra. The blinking lights atop the building in morse code spells out "Hollywood".

The mural, nicknamed "The House That Nat Built" recognized "King" Cole as a huge financial contributing factor to Capitol Records. This part of the building was an add on after the tower was built.

Perhaps, the most famous star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame" outside the doors of the Capitol Records building is that of John Lennon.
